General comment: Hi kids. Artbusiness.com recently got a little play in The Wall Street Journal which you can read about here. Inundated with aftermath, I've had approximately zero time to review openings. But now I've got somewhat more than zero time, so with apologies in advance for brevity, let's play us some catch-up...

Canessa Gallery: Tranquility in the Landscape - Wilbur Wong and Friends.

Artists: Matthew Blais, Mark Carstens, Gustavo Castilla, Claire Curran, Frank Lahorgue, Roger Aguirre Smith, Per Volquartz, Brian Vuillemenot, Vinny Walsh, Wilbur Wong.

Comment: Landscape photographs accompanied by classical music on the balcony level. Very civilized.

Geras Tousignant Gallery: James Scott Geras - The Silver Gelatin Print.

Comment: Sizable selection of landscape and figure photographs by James Scott Geras. Geras's book of landscape photography is also available for purchase. Nicely framed images priced reasonable in the mid-hundreds $$.

Ampersand International Arts: Steven Elliott - Waterworks; Angela Hennessy - Partly Cloudy.

Comment: Angela Hennessy combines black hairnets, thread, velvet shavings and related ingredients into cloudlike forms and presents them as installations, in frames, and as acrylic sculpture. Steven Elliott's romantic pyrography and mixed media works, embellished with accents including paint and faux pearls, are themed on summer camp and various analogies incumbent to the idiom.

Silverman Gallery: Job Piston - An Unsung Rhythm in a Colonnade of Stars.

Comment: Job Piston deploys himself as subject in a series of contempletive voyeuristic images that loosely communicate a tale of a secret admirer (possibly Piston himself) and of never-to-be-consummated love at a distance. In an adjacent room, Piston curates a show of select photographs taken by his mentors and teachers.

Triple Base Gallery: Susanne Shapiro - From Mind to Hand, Artists and Graphology.

Comment: Professional graphologist (handwriting analyst) Susanne Shapiro slices, dices, and dissects handwriting samples from a variety of artists-- famous to emerging, period to contemporary-- in a most intriguing, eye-opening, and informative show. For each artist, there's a work of art, a handwriting sample, and Shapiro's analysis.

The Shooting Gallery: Niagara - Nothing Good Ever Happens After 4 AM on Ladies Night at the Shanghai Lounge.

Comment: Iniquitous lurid harlot art, decidedly high camp, courtesy of the Queen of Creative Strumpets, Niagara. Nobody does it better.

Comment: Caleb Neelon architects the environments and Ben Woodward populates 'em with critters in this well-matched tandem fantasy foray.
