San Francisco Art Openings: Supervisor Matt Gonzalez

SUPERVISOR MATT GONZALEZ; SAN FRANCISCO CITY HALL
RENE PINCHUK, STEVE RICHARDS; PAINTINGS
OPENING 11.07.03

Comment: Now pay attention-- this one's a bit complicated. Steve Richards, a regular vendor at the Alemany Flea Market found an old Rene Pinchuk painting somewhere while junking around town, bought it, tracked Pinchuk down to see if there was any more art, found the guy, and more art, and now represents Pinchuk. Pinchuk started painting in the late fifties, but stopped in the sixties to take a regular job, and then took up painting again when he retired. According to Richards, Gonzalez saw Pinchuk's art in Richards's booth at the Alemany Flea Market, liked it, bought some, and invited Pinchuk to show at his City Hall office. Richards, himself an artist, was also invited to show. So that's the story. As for the opening, it was a sizzler; with Gonzalez in the run-off for Mayor, the mood was way upbeat, or maybe it was the wine.
Art: 6 flea market finds.
Crowd: 9 anticipatory Greens.
Vibe: 9 mayoral musings.

Artist/Artists: Rene Pinchuk, Steve Richards.
