San Francisco Art Openings: Limn Gallery

LIMN GALLERY:
MADE IN ITALY; MYTHICAL OBJECTS; WINTER 99% ITALIAN
OPENING 01.30.04

Comment: This one sets a precedent for openings within an opening, attracting hundreds of curious onlookers. In the spirit of Homeland Security, few people cared to divulge which opening(s) they were there for, but from the looks of things, their options included two art openings, one redesigned-showroom opening, one or maybe two magazine openings, and, possibly, a singles party. One thing for sure-- hardly anybody was looking at the art. The bar lines were long, which usually indicates a healthy dose of freeloading, but, if adhering to the singles party theory, mass lubrication for purposes of glibness would be the more likely explanation. Spot shortages of chips, bread sticks, and crackers complicated matters, precipitating periods of chaos marked by attractive eligible individuals with good paying jobs staring helplessly at mounded platters of smoked salmon dip. Logistical shortcomings aside, Limn approximates a museum of modern design, the main difference between the two being that at Limn, the objects in the collection are for sale.
