George Lawson Gallery: Tama Hochbaum - Silver Screen, Dancers; Erin Lawlor - Four Paintings, London Fields.

Review by RWM: Fun to see the film dance sequence photographs on aluminum by Tama Hochbaum which refuse to be static. Hard to identify these scenes which sometimes have icons in action. You can easily get caught up in the movement.

In the rear gallery, great large brushstrokes by Erin Lawlor are like looking at art in process. One gets lost in the enactment of the work. Would like to have seen more.

Comment by AB: Tama Hochbaum tells me her photographs are scenes from famous black & white films, some of her mother's all-time favorites, taken at all kinds of angles directly from a television screen.

San Francisco Center for the Book: The Janus Press at Sixty.

Comment by AB: Claire Van Vliet started The Janus Press in Monterey in 1954. Her limited edition books mainly marry poetry with the printmaking arts. Books from every decade of the press' existence are on exhibit here.

Root Division: The Museum of Broken Relationships.

Comment by AB: This contemplative show has nothing to do with art. It's about the objects, items, personal possessions and mementos lovers leave behind when relationships end... and the tales that go with them. Worth seeing as well as reading; don't miss next year's.
