George Lawson Gallery: Brooklyn Bridge. Curated by Justine Frischmann.

Artists: Andrea Belag, Katherine Bradford, Farrell Brickhouse, Sharon Butler, Clare Grill, Clinton King, Chris Martin, Saira McLaren, Paul Demuro, Mike Olin, Paul Pagk, Jason Stopa, Julie Torres, Wendy White.

Comment by AB: The show surveys the work of fourteen Brooklyn artists, transporting a taste of what's happening mainly in abstraction, particularly "the current resurgence of raw painting in New York neighborhoods such as Bushwick and Red Hook," across the plains and over the Great Divide. Worth a visit.

Jack Fischer Gallery: Natalya Burd & Sarah Ratchye - For Love and Glory.

Review by : Two distinct perspectives on history. Sarah Ratchye focuses her attentions on astronauts and space travel while Natalya Burd reflects on soldiers, wars and battle. Ratchye's art has a lightheartedness and humor about it while Burd's works, looking a bit like Chinese scroll paintings, are done in muted tones and are decidedly more serious in intent.

Dogpatch Cafe & Art Gallery: FaceSpace - 250 small paintings of FaceBook friends and other recent work by Amber Imrie.

Review by RWM: The artist is caught up in social media with this unusual display of 250 profile pictures of people she's "friends" with on Facebook. The display might have one wondering whether all these people consented to this, but then again they're paintings, not photographs. Great to see this reaction to Facebook. It is not generally appropriate to take photographs of strangers, but though these folks in the paintings might seem that way to us, they're probably not to the artist. Much to look at. Maybe too much to absorb. So many different portraits of different people with no understanding of whether to look at them in any particular order.

ArtPoint at the de Young Museum: Annual Gala Summer Cocktail Soirée - A Mad Men Themed Party.

Comment by AB: In honor of the de Young's current exhibition, "Modernism from the National Gallery of Art - The Robert & Jane Meyerhoff Collection," this year's episode of ArtPoint's annual spring bash is themed on Mad Men, taking us back to the days when many of the Meyerhoff works of art were brand spanking new. Always a great party; highly recommended. Plus all attendees have complete access to the Meyerhoff Collection exhibition. Join ArtPoint now and make sure you don't miss next year's.

For those of you keeping score at home, ArtPoint's members are mainly young professionals who support the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the de Young and the Legion of Honor, but anyone can join. Their annual programs and events include exhibition-related lectures, gallery parties, and museum galas. Proceeds go to support FAMSF exhibitions and programs.
