CULT | Aimee Friberg Exhibitions: A Pattern Language - Michelle Grabner, Angie Wilson, Lena Wolff.

Comment by AB: The state of art today with respect to order, precision, deliberateness, method, sequence and system. Looks good at a distance, looks good up close. Worth a visit; check it out.

Ian Ross Gallery: Spectrum - John Wentz, Jeremiah Kille, Yannick Hamon.

Comment by AB: Deliberately indeterminate portraiture and figural work seems to be among the orders of the day in artland and John Wentz is yet another proponent of that. According to the text, Yannick Hamon "exploits commercialization of the female image." But doesn't commercialization already exploit the female image? So maybe he's exploiting exploitation itself. Stay tuned. Jeremiah Kille, meanwhile, neatly sutures it all up with his vibrant urban/geometric blends.

    Romer Young Gallery: /SLASH/.

Artists: Amanda Curreri, Bruno Fazzolari, Jonn Herschend, Peter Kirkeby, Josh Podoll.

Comment by AB: A testimonial to the multidimensional Kordel Stewart of the Pittsburgh Steelers, this show is dedicated to artists who can do more than one thing well. To illustrate that point, the thing that they're doing here is other than what they normally do. Sorry-- no artist captions. You're welcome to email me at alanbamberger@me.com if you care to help rectify that situation.

[ 2nd Floor Projects ]: Jaimie Healy & Sahar Khoury; Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore - A Desire For History (limited edition broadside).

Comment by AB: There's never an abundance of explanatory to accompany shows at 2nd Floor Projects, so I'm always pretty much on my own. In that spirit, tonight's fare may possibly be an homage to rudiment, or perhaps it has to do with the presentation of a new, unconstrained or coarser take on what these days might pass for technical mastery. Or maybe it's all about materials and not that much about anything else. Spin the wheel or take your pick.

Artists: Leo Shallat, Sophie Germer, Will Sloane, Anya Rossa-Quade, Erin Mcelroy, Maxx Newman, Vladimir Kovalik, Nico Padayhag, Justin Erwin, Drew Grasso.

Comment by AB: Stay Happy Collective assesses the options and opportunities for artistic survival in San Francisco and in so doing, touches on issues like poverty, struggle, displacement, activism and keeping it real.
