FFDG: Loading - Ferris Plock & Kelly Tunstall.

Comment by AB: The show's title, Loading, refers to those tortuous Internet hiccups where we're momentarily deprived of our data streams and instantly plummet into the under-connected abyss of misery. What the art has to do with that, I have no idea, other than perhaps as an option for passing the time during those moments. And they would be moments entertainingly passed as we get to follow the heroic adventures of Kelly Tunstall's girly girls and Ferris Plock's colorful cockamamie characters. Worth a visit.

    1AM Gallery: Synonymous.

Photographers: Ben Gore, Joseph Staley, Chris Atwood, Jason Henry, Joel Meinholz.

Comment by AB: Survey of the work of five photographers who have been instrumental in documenting Ess Eff's skate and street culture, their contributions helping to influence the course of companies like Benny Gold, FTC, DLX SF, Paradise Wheels, Snack Skateboards, Slap Magazine, Lowcard Magazine, Magenta Skateboards, I Am Your Villain, Theories of Atlantis and Politic Skateboards.

    Et al. Gallery: Aaron Finnis.

Comment by AB: In kind of an update on Op Art, Aaron Finnis prints precision vertical, horizontal and criss-cross geometric patterns, some with subtly progressive color changes, onto what appear to be parts of assemble-it-yourself Ikea-esque furnishings. Nicely done. For those of you keeping score at home, the moiré patterns (look it up) in the photographs are not part of Finnis' art, but rather optical effects created by the closeness of the lines in his prints.

RVCA / VASF Gallery: Travel The Void - Kylea Borges; Francesco Igory Deiana window display.

Comment by AB: Admirably accurate collages by Kylea Borges, some with perfect symmetry, portions of others embellished with exacting ink perimeters. A selection of hanging prints on fabric and a wall-length installation round out the show. All very well done.
