Haines Gallery: Now & Then - David Simpson

Comment by AB: A retrospective look at a half-century of art by David Simpson. Plus it's a Bay Area art history lesson as well. Good work; stop on by.

Gregory Lind Gallery: Eamon O'Kane - Baum Test

Comment by AB: The show commemorates a 1958 Berkeley study where ten noted architects underwent extensive psychological testing to determine whether traits of creativity could be quantified in terms of personality. My favorites? Small paintings in intensified palettes of homes designed by the architects.

Fraenkel Gallery: Hiroshi Sugimoto - Remains to be Seen

Comment by AB: Hiroshi Sugimoto makes oversized time-exposure photographs of the interiors of abandoned movie theaters dating from Hollywood's Golden Age. The source of lighting for each photograph is a vintage film playing from beginning to end. Go see.

Robert Koch Gallery: Trent Davis Bailey - The North Fork

Comment by AB: A sensitive, caring and considerate look at the landscape, inhabitants and everyday activities in a rural agricultural region of western Colorado. Check it out.

K Imperial Fine Art: Mila Libman - Changing Landscape

Comment by AB: According to the deposition, Mila Libman rubs dry pigment onto paper and then creates her soft photorealistic silhouette images by erasing detailed areas of that pigment. Unusual technique... and it works.
