    Elins Eagles-Smith Gallery: Country/City.

Artists: Jennifer Bain, Carol Elkovich, Jan Gauthier, Claudia Rilling.

Comment by AB: The plot line's pretty straightforward here. Art about the country; art about the city. But mainly the country.

The McLoughlin Gallery: "kor sam-pels" - Mitch Confer.

Review by Neal Strickberger: In this substantial body of new work, Mitch Confer uses his traditional art-making techniques in more abstract and regulated ways, creating this art while at the same time battling N stage melanoma.

Comment by AB: Mitch Confer's stared down some daunting challenges over the past year and in so doing, demonstrated extraordinary resolve. The "kor sam-pels" (core samples) he exhibits here symbolize his "drilling down" or reflecting on the totality of his life, the layered sections of these totem-like cylinders symbolizing events and happenings between birth and now. Makes me think back on the significance of my life, and about how I've arrived at where I am now. Such is the power of art. Exemplary concept and a show well worth seeing. Hopefully they'll give you pause for thought as well.

Frey Norris Contemporary & Modern: Lionel Bawden - The World of the Surface.

Review by Clare Coppel: Lionel Bawden's sculptural pieces are made entirely out of colored pencils. Placed tightly against one another in chromatic patterns, Bawden creates shapes resembling body parts, sea creatures... or maybe even abstract ideas. Worth experiencing up close, probably should resist touching them though.

Mina Dresden Gallery: Matt Borruso and Nick Hoff - Scanners.

Comment by AB: Matt Borruso and Nick Hoff transform the gallery into a working bookstore that will also host events and performances during the coming month. Very convincing.

White Walls Gallery: Style of Eye - New Works by Casey Gray.

Review by Mairead O'Connor: There's plenty to see and experience in Casey Gray's work. His art is involved in both process and content... and very satisfying. The viewer's eyes are guided around the carefully composed pieces from scene to scene by devices such as the reach of a hand or eye-lasers that beam across their surfaces.

Review by RWM: Psychedelic funkadelic with symbols, totems, icons, large forms and motifs. You can smell the flowers and hear the music in these images which will surely uplift your spirits. You can also look closer for narratives and statements.

Comment by AB: Good art; admirably affordable. The perfect marriage.

The Shooting Gallery: Just For One Day - New Works by Ferris Plock.

Review by Mairead O'Connor: Ferris Plock's Asian-influenced work combines animated characters and rich colors with gentle reserved patterns. They are delicately constructed and fun.
