Hackett Mill Art Dealers and Advisors: Symbiosis - Conversations Between East and West.

Artists: Ruth Asawa, Robert Motherwell, Franz Kline, Kenzo Okada, Kazuo Shiraga, Herbert Ferber, Howard Hodgkin, Lee Krasner, Manuel Neri, Masatoyo Kishi, Sueo Serisawa, Mark Tobey, others.

Comment by RWM: Diverse styles, pronouncements, high concepts, and even a missing ear.

Comment by AB: Examples of American, European and Asian post-war abstraction. An excellent opportunity to compare and contrast simultaneous developments in international expressionistic abstraction. You don't see a lot by these artists on exhibit around town. In other words... worth a visit.

Museum of the African Diaspora: Collected - Stories of Acquisition and Reclamation.

Comment by AB: Three public and private collections contribute to this fascinating exhibition of historic African-Americana including painting, sculpture, signed and inscribed first edition books and literature, film posters, sheet music, and more. We've come a long way already, but we still have a long way to go. Definitely worth a visit.

The Center for Sex and Culture: Dirty Comics! Curated by Jon Macy.

Artists: Donna Barr, Tony Breed, Katie Bryant, Megan Yamanaka, Nickie C., Jennifer Camper, Rene Capone, Rob Clark, John Coulthart, Agnes Czaja, Dame Darcy, Dave "ddog" Davenport, KD Diamond, Dylan "NDR" Edwards, Sina Evil, Edie Fake, Patrick Fillion, JT Ford, Diego Gomez, Roberta Gregory, Michelle Gruben, Justin Hall, Pam Harrison, Dorian Katz, Nathan Kibler, Molly Kiely, Robert Kirby, Steve Macisaac, Jon Macy, Michael Manning, Mioki, Mari Naomi, Fred Noland, Eric Orner, Christine Smith, Rosemary Van Deuren, WerePuppy, Rick Worley, Sean-Z.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: The hybrid medium of the comic combines verbal and visual components to convey narratives or sometimes only information. All graphic novels are a powerful means of bringing more transparency to socio-cultural topics. Here is an overwhelming richness of imagery in different points of view on the subjects expressed, whether artistic, social or political. A real must see.

Review by Clare Coppel: This survey of erotic comic book art makes for an interesting read with a lot of variety.

Comment by AB: No fetish or fantasy left unattended to here.

The Lab: TIME. Curated by Gail Dawson, Mary Anne Kluth and Jesse Houlding.

Artists: Adam Katseff, Eric Larson, Angela Willetts and Todd Anderson, Kevin Seaman, Scott Kildall, Ashley Lauren Saks, Nicole Fein, Surabhi Saraf, Brice Bischoff, Michael Namkung, Yuki Maruyama, Jennifer Campbell, Leeza Doreian.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: This exhibition is about the endless investigations and attempts to define Time. Much of the art concerns repetitive patterns-- good measures for defining time. Ongoing live performances serve to unify the individual projects and bring the show to life...

Comment by AB: Time is the headliner of this artistic endeavor-- its passage, quantification, observation, ravages, and just plain appreciation of its infinite continuum.

SOMArts Gallery: Illuminations - Dia de los Muertos 2011. Curated by Rene Yanez and Rio Yanez.

Artists: Elizabeth Addison, Susana Aragon, Anais Azul, Romeo G. Osorio, Anna Hoover, Theo Know Gina Lim, Tamara Liu, Bruno Lopez Pete Hickock, Laura DuBois, Lanell Dike, School 6th Grade Class, Katie Paxton, Jos Sances, Betty Segal David Tafolla, Lia Tealdi, Amanda Vigil, Diane Williams, Betty Segal, more.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: The installations focus on gatherings of family and friends to honor the deceased. Instead of fearing death, this exhibition embraces death in order to enjoy the beauty of life. The cult of Death is a colorful celebration where death takes on lively friendly expressions.

Review by RWM: Such splendor, diversity and style. Some may find it wild, but be happy that they were invited for the haunting.

Comment by AB: Time once again to express our reverence for those who have come before us, and who we'll all be joining soon enough. One of my favorite shows of the year. Stop on by.

31 Rausch St. Gallery: Walter Logue - Over and Over Again.

Review by Clare Coppel: Walter Logue's small square black and white paintings of numbers represent the social security numbers of deceased famous people (they're public record) including that of Marcel Duchamp.

Comment by AB: Proprietor Chris McCaw tells me that Walter Logue's art is made entirely from SFMOMA material discards.

The Popular Workshop: Wide Wide Run - Jonathan Runcio.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: Upon entering the space, we find nicely crafted objects in post-minimalist style. After intense reading of the work we eventually get an idea as to their deeper meanings.
