Gallery Paule Anglim: Sight / Vision - The Urban Milieu.

Artists: Wallace Berman, Joan Brown, Cameron, Bruce Conner, Jean Conner, Jay DeFeo, Wally Hedrick, George Herms, Jess, Lawrence Jordan.

Comment by RWM: Nice to get lost here in the city. Crowded show with wonders and surprises. Interesting approaches and side streets.

Comment by AB: Group show of work by California Beat Era artists, themed mainly on urban concerns of the time period, encompasses painting, drawing, works on paper, assemblage, collage, artist books and mixed media art. Some pretty cherry examples by iconoclast bohemians who bucked prevailing trends. Good show; go see.

Highlight Gallery: Facundo Argaņaraz - Tonight Tonight.

Comment by AB: Facundo Argaņaraz continues his meta-modern exploits with this selection of clean precision mixed media works on aluminum panels, digital prints, and light sculptures. The show is accompanied by one of the more mind-mauling statements I've had the agony of being abused by in a while. Highlights from this pretentious barrage of bombast include, "The exhibition is about itself and the weight of uncountable others-- an exhibition within exhibitions, of conjunction over connection, a translation creating a different version" and "[the art] is aimed at confronting, and living within, the conditions of contemporary aesthetics locked into an ever expanding present-- laying bare (after the future) the banality and entropic characteristic of Modern constructs, the erosion of content through time, and the problems of originality in a thoroughly commodified world." Oy!!

Good art and worth a visit.

ArtSpan at SOMArts Gallery: ArtLaunch 2013 - SF Open Studios Exhibition Opening Reception.

    Artists: Hundreds.

Comment by AB: Gala kickoff preview party for this year's San Francisco Open Studios features over 400 works of art on display here at the SOMArts main gallery. Over 900 artists will be welcoming visitors to their studios during the annual month-long event, more than have ever participated before. As usual, the available art encompasses pretty much everything under the sun. Don't believe me? Believe this...
