    Gallery 16: Tucker Nichols.

Review by Julia Haas: Tucker Nichols' new colors and shapes are up at Gallery 16 until December 11. He's showing a wonderful selection of his usual tongue in cheek style drawings and sculpture, and is premiering some experimental wallpaper (books and t-shirts for sale, too, of course). Go see it!

RayKo Photo Center: Family of Mine - Photographs by Steve Bliss, Katrina d'Autremont, and Jason Houston; City of Children - Monika Merva.

Comment by AB: Photographs of family by three photographers and photographs of children by Monika Merva, documentary overall, exalt ordinary people living everyday lives, and range in tone from deadpan to sensitive to amusing to touching to mildly Stepford.

Ratio 3 Gallery: Ara Peterson - Turns into Stone.

Comment by AB: Rhode Island artist Ara Peterson's attenuated kalaidoscopic color bands welcome you to the gallery, as next you encounter vivid geometric renditions of backgammon boards, collaboratives by Peterson and his father, Jack Peterson, laid out on a large low table in the center of the main room. Along the walls and on pedestals are sculptural works comprised of multiple slender painted wood slats cut into complicated patterns that Peterson has designed and produced by computer, and then ahered one after the other in meta-regimented contiguity. The resulting configurations oscillate between two and three dimensions, depending on how you perceive their component parts. And to top it all off, rigorous precision and attention to outcome elevate the experience even more. Superb show. Highly recommended.

Needles & Pens: Revive - Nikki McClure.

Comment by AB: Nikki McClure has mastered the art of cutting single sheets of paper into astoundingly elaborate and detailed compositions, so free and easy and spontaneous and immaculate, you can hardly believe she does it with your basic everyday x-acto knife. I'm so impressed, that by virtue of the authority vested within me, I hereby bestow the rare and highly coveted "How Do Dey Do Dat?" award upon this entire endeavor. See for yourself; be amazed... and one day tell your children.

Triple Base Gallery: I Wanna Be Adored - Serena Cole.

Comment by AB: Serena Cole's two-painting statement is more of a consecration than anything, annointing gorgeous (and apparently psychically afflicted) women to practically "Last Supper" status.
