Park Life: Michelle Fleck - Somewhere.

Review by Clare Coppel: Michelle Fleck's "Somewhere" definitley seems like a place I've been to-- gray skies, dumpsters, billboards advertising nothing, orange fencing, and my favorite, the pink "Thank You" bag in a tree against a gray sky. These pictures may sound depressing, however in viewing, they emanate a bright cheerful simplicity.

Ruth's Table at Bethany Center: Russian art by The Bay - Russian Artists of Different Generations. Curated by Inna Razumova.

Artists: Anastasya Chernyavsky, Henry Elinson, Elena Lokshina, Tatiana Lyskova, Alex Miokovic, Misha Pavlov, Inna Razumova, Irina Varshavsky, Vladimir Zimakov.

Comment by AB: Here's the skinny on this one-- "The main goal is to show diversity of ideas, a range of art making approaches, and techniques among contemporary Russian artists in California. There are nine artists of different generations working in various media with a range of artistic influences and of diverse ethnic and geographic backgrounds. Some were born in Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Sakhalin Island), and others to Russian emigrants in Germany and Argentina, but all are united by Russian culture and shaped by California experience."

63 Bluxome Street Gallery: Clam Lynch - New Paintings and Motivational Seminar.

Comment by AB: "Semi-motivational guru" and performance artist Clam Lynch gives us a hilarious lesson on self-improvement, after which we all adjourn to his art show. If you haven't seen Lynch in action, just dial him up on YouTube.

Satellite66 Gallery & The Maltese Embassy: Anja Leonora Ulfeldt - Preternatural; J.K. Wornson - Other Rooms, Near to Me.

Comment by AB: Viewers are invited to operate Anja Leonora Ulfeldt's cleanly engineered kinetic contraptions. Turn the handles to find out what they do. J.K. Wornson's conceptual abstractions, meanwhile, relate to our immediate circumstances, domiciles, institutions and environments... or so they say.

111 Minna Gallery: Book Release Event and Street Party for "The Book of the IS" by Chicken John.

Comment by AB: This classic Burning Man-style wingding celebrates the release of Chicken John's first book. The street and bar/nightclub/gallery are crammed to the absolute with characters, plus diversions galore including an oversized metal sculpture of a futuristic plant that spits electricity, free books, racquetball in the back of a truck, and more more more. Through it all, Chicken John's book is selling briskly-- both the regular edition and unique one-of-a-kind arted up copies.
