Robert Koch Gallery: Epilogue - Tamas Dezso.

Comment by AB: Romania's had it pretty tough over the past sixty years or so, from dictatorship to social and economic upheavals. Tamas Dezso captures the desolate dismal aftermath of all that, particularly from the perspective of custom, tradition and those who populate these areas now. Romance meets tragedy. Check it out.

Fraenkel Gallery: Richard Learoyd - The Outside World.

Comment by AB: Richard Learoyd crafts his own camera, bulky and entirely impractical, and transports it to the great outdoors to produce impressive oversized contact prints of undistinguished landscapes imbued with meditative atmospheric overtones... but not before working its magic indoors as well. Go see.

Altman Siegel Gallery: Sanya Kantarovsky - Monday's Dirty Light.

Review by RWM: Personal and painful. Good to stretch one's legs in cramped spaces. Interesting show which may interact with your guttural inclinations. Not an ouchie here, but pain on display nonetheless.

Comment by AB: Several of Sanya Kantarovsky's compositions seem somewhat inspired by Chagall with perhaps a little George Grosz thrown in, but the upshot is evolved well beyond either. Our hero, meanwhile, seems to be having a bit of a difficult time. Worth a look.

Modernism Gallery: Jacques Villeglé - Théâtre, Cinéma, Music-Hall.

Comment by AB: These remnants of advertisements for events, entertainment, publications and happenings-- bits and pieces of has-been billboards-- are collaged into enigmatic commemorations of the times that effortlessly coalesce into ghostly aesthetic reminiscences.
