Museo Italo Americano at Fort Mason Center: TTOZOI - Genius Loci
Comment by AB: Italian artist duo TTOZOI aka Giuseppe Rossi and Stefano Forgione create and present Genius Loci, an exhibition exploring ways that art and history intersect. With the support of Italy's Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism, the artists are given exclusive access to two of Italy's UNESCO World Heritage sites.
At each site, they paint a group of stretched jute canvases with mixtures of organic pigments, water, and various flours. They then seal and store the completed works for periods of up to several months. During that time, molds are allowed to grow, proliferate and become one with the coatings. In a sense, the resulting "collaborative paintings" can be seen as having assimilated the soul, spirit and histories of their chosen locations.
Genius Loci, co-curated by Anna Dusi and Mary Serventi Steiner, will be on view at the museum through June 9, 2019.
