Comment by Clare Coppel: At Guerrero Gallery new works by Mark Mulroney-- "Sent Upstate"-- paintings and collages starring mid-20th century comic book characters engaged in some rather graphic acts as they float it white negative space. Though surely inappropriate for grandma, they're quite visually striking. In the back gallery is Charles Linder's show, "Swimmingly, with Watermelons and Referrals." Literally, watermelons float in a nice big above ground pool on a clean patch of astroturf... I keep waiting for someone to get in, but no one does; some kids just splash at the water with their hands.
At Steven Wolf, a group show of different media includes plexiglass, photography, a notepad, ink on paper, lithography, an artist book, and communion wafers covered in glitter and mounted on the wall with needles.
Comment by AB: Flagrantly festive fine art barbecue. How would I rate it? Much better than expected. Thought it would be something like mostly art and a couple of hotdogs. But noooooooooooo. This was all that and way more-- one of those uncommon San Francisco confluences of creatives, characters, beverages, delectables, entertainment and just to make it official-- art-- plus the Good Lord laid down some eminently preeminent weather. Preview pics for now; more pics and show reviews coming soon...
